A young mother's journey from despair to hope

“I was only 19 when I became a mother. Now, thanks to Qurbani Aid, I can give my children the nutrition they need to grow strong and healthy.”

A Young Mother's Courage

Amina Hassan was just a teenager when she found herself responsible for three young children in the midst of Sudan's ongoing crisis. At 19, she became the primary caregiver for her younger siblings after their parents were displaced by conflict. What started as a temporary arrangement became her new reality overnight.

Living in a small village near Khartoum, Amina faced challenges that would overwhelm most adults. Her siblings - little Fatima (8), Omar (6), and baby Aisha (2) - depended entirely on her for their survival. “I had to grow up very quickly,” Amina recalls. “One day I was a carefree teenager, the next I was responsible for three lives.”

The Daily Struggle for Survival

Before Qurbani Aid, Amina's days were consumed by the constant worry of feeding her family. She would wake up before dawn to walk miles to the nearest market, hoping to find affordable food. Often, she would return with only bread and tea - barely enough to keep the children from crying with hunger.

“The children were always tired,” Amina says. “Fatima would fall asleep in class. Omar couldn't concentrate on his studies. And little Aisha was so small for her age. I felt like I was failing them every day.”
